Overview

Paraíso Perdido Villas is a boutique hospitality project of independent beachfront villas on a tropical island coast, set between a dense coconut grove and a white-sand beach facing a turquoise lagoon. The villas are arranged in a loose sequence along the shoreline, each orientated towards the sea and separated from its neighbours by planted gaps that guarantee privacy.

Each villa is composed of simple, interlocking volumes: a white rendered pavilion with a thin, projecting roof slab and a taller timber-clad wall that rises above the roofline, anchoring the composition and screening the private areas. Full-height glazing opens the bedroom and living spaces onto a timber deck and a long infinity pool, raised on a plinth so that the water appears to merge with the horizon.

Constraints

The site is a fragile coastal environment, where the coconut grove, the dune vegetation and the beach had to be preserved. The villas needed to sit lightly on the sand, without large earthworks or the removal of mature palms, while withstanding intense sun, salt-laden air and tropical rainfall.

The brief also called for a high level of privacy and exclusivity for each villa, despite their proximity, and for an architectural language that would remain calm and contemporary within an overwhelming natural landscape.

Outcome

The villas were implanted in the clearings between existing palms, with planted green roofs that reduce heat gain and make the buildings almost disappear when seen from above. Deep roof overhangs shade the glazing, timber screens filter light and views, and the raised pools create a private threshold between each villa and the public beach.

The result is a refined, low-impact retreat where white render, natural timber and water form a restrained palette, and where every space is oriented towards the light, the breeze and the ocean.
